Trained as a science writer, Nalaka Gunawardene has worked in the public media and communication spheres for 25 years, both in his native Sri Lanka and across developing Asia. During this time, he has variously been a news reporter, science editor, radio and TV host, documentary film producer, foreign correspondent and journalist trainer.

In 1996, he co-founded the non-profit media foundation TVE Asia Pacific, through which he has catalysed and produced dozens of educational TV programmes and videos on science, sustainable development, public health and ICT related topics.

He writes two Sunday columns in national newspapers in Sri Lanka (Ravaya in Sinhala, Ceylon Today in English), also blogs and tweets regularly.

Nalaka’s views are entirely his own and do not necessarily reflect those of any media or development institutions that he is associated with.
